To get the terrain modified in photoshop to work with your track you need to save it as terrain.png and save it into your personal folder for your track.
Here's the method I take when building tracks for mxs.
Terragen: Basic terrain generation
Photoshop: Track path and flattening of track surface
MXS editor: Jumps
MVA RBW editor: Conform terrain to jumps and smooth out
MXS editor: Smooth out track, add ruts, berms
It's a long process, but it helps for me to be able to work with the track in 3d with the rbw editor.

Re: photoshop
Which version of PhotoShop would I need to color pictures on the computer? You see, I have drawn pictures that I want to scan and color on the computer, seeing as it would look better colored that way than with the traditional concept of crayons/markers/etc. Anyway, I heard that PhotoShop works well for this, but there are many different versions... I don't know which one to get! Can anyone tell me?
