Re: Serious Business
There are pro's and con's both ways. I don't think that you are going to be faster on the 150 over the 250 because you use the power of the 250 to go faster, with the 150 you would need to use more corner speed to be faster then what you would be on the 250. On the flip side you would more than likely be able to ride the 150 longer at race pace because it has less power. The 150 is a more high strung engine and would need more maintenance then the 250 in the long run. However the 150 is by far the most fun 2013 MX bike made in my opinion after riding one.
Re: Serious Business
My 150 blew up a lot, but it was an 08.
A 200SX might be perfect for you. It runs about the same horsepower as a 250F, but it's got a very linear powerband. You can also bolt the 200 parts (head, crank, etc) onto a 125 or 150 motor.

Re: Serious Business
The 150 has seen LOTS of changes to the engine since 08, the 08's had problems with the top end's mostly due to the rings.KTM57 wrote:My 150 blew up a lot, but it was an 08.

I've had a 12 150 since about a month before mammoth and haven't had to do anything to it yet except its about time for a clutch

Re: Serious Business
Cornering would definitely be easier on the 150. My cousin had a 2003 250SX for a while and it handled like crap. My brother has a 2007 144 that handles like a mountain bike, and the new ones are supposed to be even better. You would have to sort of relearn how to ride though. You can't always just come in hot, square a corner off, and power out on a smallbore like you can on a 250. Momentum is very important, as well as being in the right gear and knowing how and when to use the clutch. The 150 will make you a better for those reasons alone, so if you spend a couple or three years on it and then go back up to a 250 you'll be faster. You're a girl so assume you're fairly light so the suspension on the 150 would probably suit you better too. 250's are usually sprung stiffer because they are built with heavier riders in mind instead of the kids who usually ride smallbores.

If your getting tired on the 250SX, try an XC

Re: Serious Business
My dad knows what he's doing, hence why my YZ250F with over 200 hours on it is still rock solid reliable. If he can do a revalve job on a 4 stroke, then I'm sure he can replace a 125 top endrmitch524 wrote:Yeah. I think your mechanic is the unreliable one. Lol
I think our problem was it was a Suzuki
Now, back to the serious business. I still think you should get a 250SX.

I raced suzukis from 4-16......everyone thinks there dad is a good mechanic...

Re: Serious Business
Didn't she say she had a 2003 250 SX? I know they've been massively revamped since then and have gotten all the handling improvements their smallbores have. I was just talking about that generation of KTM's in particular. My dream bike would be a new 250SX so don't roll your eyes at me, sir.BuddyTheElf wrote:So 10 years on they must still handle like crap right?Ih8Hondas wrote:My cousin had a 2003 250SX for a while and it handled like crap.

Re: Serious Business
250. If you already ride one it will be perfect. Plus when you are just screwing around, a more powerful bike is generally way more fun. 125/150 are super fun tho cause you are on the stops the whole time. However if you aren't comfortably being somewhat sketchy, Id stick with the more powerful, smoother, 250.

Re: Serious Business
Also, for the record, I agree with DJ. 350 practically rides itself. Also, a 350 or 450 will require MUCH less maintenance as your old 250f that I'm sure you are thinking of.
Re: Serious Business
She's talking about a 250sx. Not sx-f . A big reason why the 250sxf is kinda out of the question is because it sells for over $1000 more than the 250sx. (Correct me if im wrong but I'm pretty sure I saw that). The 350 is absolutely a no go because she would like to try and qualify for lorettas in the women's class which only allows up to 250cc bikes.
